G.B.H.S. Bafoussam will be 66 years old in 2022. It was founded in 1956 by a French Cameroonian and started as an evening school until 1959, then became Government Secondary School from 1960 to 1963. Later on, it became Government High School in 1963 and finally Government Bilingual High School since 1991. It is now the largest and oldest secondary institution in the West Region of Cameroon.


G.B.H.S. Bafoussam( Government Bilingual High School Bafoussam, in full) is also known as LYBIBAF (Lycée Bilingue de Bafoussam). Because of the bilingual nature of our country, Cameroon, G.B.H.S. Bafoussam has names in both English and in French.


For the pas 3 years, at least one student from G.B.H.S. Bafoussam has appeared in the GCE A level honor roll list. However, 2021 was quite exceptional. Out of the 30 students on the honor roll list, 6 of them were from G.B.H.S. Bafoussam, with the first national being from G.B.H.S. Bafoussam. This made the school standout greatly on a national scale. These six students are:

In 2021, 684 candidates were interviewed for form 1 positions, with just 205 spots available for incoming newcomers. Our admittance rate is 29.97%, placing us among the top 5 most competitive government institutions in the country.


G.B.H.S. Bafoussam school archives are maintained by G.B.H.S. Bafoussam's library system and are a great resource to access G.B.H.S. Bafoussam's historical records.

G.B.H.S. Bafoussam has had a good number of buildings rom the time of its foundation till present, with a good number of ongoing projects to ameliorate the school's infrastructure. 
The school begun with 9 students and a single teacher, and has grown to a current size of about 15000 students both in the Anglophone and Francophone sections of the school.
