GBHS Bafoussam is one of the biggest government bilingual high schools in the west region of Cameroon. It is situated in Bafoussam (capital of the west region), Mifi division, and Sub division Bafoussam 1, located in between the Cameroon Radion and Television (CRTV) and the regional delegation in charge of secondary education. In terms of infrastructure, GBHS Bafoussam has one administrative bloc, 148 classrooms (68 for the Anglophone section and 80 for the francophone section), one infirmary, a guidance and counselling service, a big library and 7 computer rooms. GBHS has a huge staff: One Principal, over 200 teaching staff and with overall of 6500 students.

GBHS Bafoussam started as an evening school from 1956 to 1959, then became Government Secondary School from 1960 to 1963. Later on, it became Government High School in 1963 and finally Government Bilingual High School since 1991. 
Being a bilingual school, it is divided into two sub educational system that is francophone and Anglophone, further divided into cycles that is the first and the second cycle. The francophone section starts from Sixième to Terminale and the Anglophone section starts from Form 1 to Upper Sixth. 
GBHS Bafoussam is ranked among the best schools both at the regional and national level as far as result are concerned.
